St James is the Church of England parish church for Silsden in the diocese of Bradford...
...and more than a building, it is also a constantly evolving group of ordinary people following the way marked out by Jesus Christ. We are not too holy, or too precious; we laugh a lot, sometimes we cry; we get things right, and we get things wrong. We hope that you will find a spiritual home with us.
Our Groups
Bellringers - At St James we have 6 bells, with the biggest one weighing in at just under 7 hundredweight. At the moment we have 9 bellringers who practice on Thursday evening from 18:30 to 20:00. If you would like to know more contact
Home Groups - we have several Home Groups running at different times and studying different topics
Children's Workshop - Children workshop takes place during the 10:30 service. The workshop is about having fun, games, stories and music around the work of God, Jesus and people in the Bible.
Choir - Our choir always welcomes new members.
Flower Guild - Currently 12 members who love arranging flowers, which are donated, often in memory of a loved one, by the congregation or friends of the church. As well as the weekly arrangements we decorate the whole church for Christmas, Easter and Harvest. We can also provide arrangements for weddings.
Gardening Group - Looks after the church lawns, gardens and paths. Currently there are 7 members who meet Saturday morning 09:30 to 11:00.
Jimmy's Mens Group - Meets at the Kings Arm's for a pint (or sometimes for a curry!) and a natter with a bit of religion too.
Knit, Stitch and Natter - Meets fortnightly, Saturday in the church hall at 14:00
Monthly Work Days - Volunteers gather once per month to do all the odd jobs necessary to maintain hall and church etc.

Pastoral Care Team - The sick and housebound are visited and prayed for regularly, communion is taken to the local care homes and the house bound. Contact the team to give information about anyone needing a visit at home or in hospital. The Team: Parish Clergy, Sheila Thompson, Lay Eucharistic Assistants
Prayer Chain - The prayer chain prays for people in need.
Thursday Group - Once a fortnight there is a Communion service in church on Thursday at 14:00. Afterwards, it's into the church for a cuppa, chat and other activities such as banner making, talks, slide shows and quizzes.
